A Home for Hope
May 11, 2018 – The Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre has been very busy in 2018 welcoming new members and seeing record breaking hours of program participation. The Centre continues to be a place of support and hope for those living with cancer, their families and caregivers. However, we have been provided formal notice that we must vacate the premises by December 31, 2018. We are certainly grateful for everything the Georgian Bay General Hospital has done to support the centre over the last seven years.
Back in the Fall of 2017 we shared with the community that the Board and Staff would continue to look for a new home for the GBCSC and after several months of exploring various options, such as commercial building to retrofit to parcels of land throughout North Simcoe, the Board has unanimously agreed to proceed with building a new home. The 4000 square foot purpose build home will allow us to deliver on the GBCSC mission and vision not only for today, but for many more years to come.
Our goal for the Centre in 2018 is to increase awareness of the wonderful cancer support and programming available right here in our community. As we work towards achieving this goal, we have come to realize that there continues to be a growing need for our services.
Both the Board of Directors and Staff are excited about this decision and we are committed to being open and transparent throughout this next chapter of our growth. This is just the first of many more communications to come as we start the process for making this new purpose build home a reality. The dream of making the Centre a ‘home away from home’ will become a reality as we forge ahead and build A Home for Hope.
